Ancient Indian Sport

The Art of the Pole

Strength · Focus · Defying Gravity

What is Mallakhamb?

Mallakhamb is an ancient traditional Indian sport where practitioners perform highly complex aerial yoga and gymnastic postures on a vertical wooden pole or rope. The term itself is derived from "Malla" (wrestler) and "Khamb" (pole), translating to "the wrestler's pole." At Shree Bhavani Akhada, we view Mallakhamb as the ultimate test of neuromuscular coordination. Training on the pole demands extreme flexibility, rapid reflexes, and immense concentration.

Practicing Mallakhamb significantly elevates one's spatial awareness and balance. The unique nature of gripping and navigating the smooth, tapered wooden pole requires a dynamic synergy of core strength and mental fortitude. It uniquely decompresses the spine, improves posture, and builds lean, resilient muscle tissue. Beyond the physical advantages, the sheer courage required to execute aerial maneuvers instills an unshakeable sense of self-confidence and fearlessness. Historically utilized as a cross-training tool for elite warriors, today it stands as an unparalleled discipline for achieving peak physical mastery.

We offer specialized batches catering to a wide range of age groups. Our early childhood programs (starting as young as 2.5 to 3 years) focus on developing motor skills, agility, and basic flexibility. For older children and teenagers (up to 21 years), regular and special batches provide rigorous, advanced training that prepares them for competitive levels.
